Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its communication arsenal: a virtual artificial intelligence (AI) spokesperson tasked with delivering consular updates to the public.
Named Victoriya Shi, the virtual representative draws inspiration from Rosalie Nombre, a well-known Ukrainian singer and media personality, recognized for her participation in Holostyak, the Ukrainian equivalent of The Bachelor reality show. Hailing from Donetsk and celebrated for her diverse background, Nombre graciously lent her voice and likeness for this initiative, as stated in the ministry’s press release.
In a teaser video, Victoriya Shi outlined her role and responsibilities, emphasizing her symbolic name, which embodies the spirit of Ukrainian victory, coupled with her AI nature. She expressed her commitment to disseminating timely and verified information from the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) regarding various aspects such as citizen welfare abroad, emergency responses, and other pertinent updates.
To combat potential misinformation, the ministry has implemented stringent measures, including the use of QR codes directing users to official statements, ensuring the authenticity of the information disseminated.
The decision to integrate AI technology stems from the ministry’s strategic aim to streamline processes, particularly during the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, underscored the potential of this innovation to enhance efficiency, enabling real diplomats to allocate their resources more effectively towards assisting citizens in need.
