Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) recently suggested that the legal actions against former President Donald Trump are strategically designed to impede his 2024 presidential campaign. In a public appearance, Ocasio-Cortez likened the restrictions on Trump to an “electronic ankle monitor,” highlighting the impact of these legal constraints on his ability to campaign.
Last week, President Trump announced plans for a rally in the South Bronx to address the economic issues attributed to President Joe Biden’s administration. The rally is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 6:00 PM EDT in Crotona Park, aiming to spotlight the economic struggles faced by communities like the South Bronx under the current administration.
During her appearance, Ocasio-Cortez commented on Trump’s rally location, stating, “By the way, Trump’s doing it in the South Bronx not to make a point but because he’s got court. And the man practically has the legal version of an ankle bracelet around him, and he can’t leave the five boroughs because he always has to be in court.” She further added, “So it is truly an embarrassment to him. And I am looking forward to the response of everyday Bronxites talking about how they feel about him coming to their backyard.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks highlight ongoing legal challenges faced by Trump, including the Georgia election interference case, where Trump faces 13 counts related to efforts to influence Georgia’s 2020 election results, including charges of election fraud conspiracy and solicitation. In the January 6th Capitol event case, Trump is charged with four counts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of an official proceeding, related to the January 6 events. The classified documents case accuses Trump in 40 counts of unlawfully managing national defense information at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Additionally, Trump faces 34 counts in the New York business fraud case for allegedly falsifying business records linked to payments to Stormy Daniels.
As if the public needed any more proof suggesting that these cases are bogus, Ocasio-Cortez’s comparison of these legal challenges to an “ankle monitor” suggests a strategic use of legal measures as political tools against Trump, raising concerns about potential election interference.
