Amber Rose, model and rapper, took her fans by surprise with a recent Instagram post expressing her support for former President Donald Trump to her over 24 million followers.
“Trump 2024,” she declared Monday night, accompanying the statement with a photo of herself, the former president, and First Lady Melania Trump. The post sparked a wave of criticism from some of her followers.
“This goes against everything you’ve preached,” commented one fan. Another follower expressed their frustration more bluntly: “Lol I better never see you speak on women’s rights again.” One particularly pointed response read, “Imagine being an ‘advocate’ for women’s rights and endorsing Trump and his party who reversed Roe V Wade. Wild,” a reference to Rose’s reputation as a staunch advocate for women’s rights. Among other prominent gestures in support of women’s rights, she is known for founding SlutWalk, a movement aimed at ending rape culture, victim blaming, and the “slut shaming” of sexual assault victims.
Adding to the controversy, Rose also posted a picture of a Trump-themed cereal box on her Instagram. This endorsement marks a significant reversal from her past views on Trump. In 2016, Rose had vehemently opposed Trump’s presidential victory, telling Us Weekly, “I can’t even think about it! I’m moving, I’m out! I can’t. And I am taking my son with me!”
Rose addressed the backlash in a response to The Shade Room, a popular celebrity news outlet. “Y’all think Biden cares about black ppl??? Sad. Do ur research. I did. I’ll ALWAYS put women first. Y’all want biological men in women’s sports,” she stated. Rose further added, “Trump supports the most reasonable compromise on abortion. Stop being brainwashed cuz WE’RE ppl of color. Make your own decisions.”
Her recent comments highlight a significant shift in her political stance and align with a broader trend of waning support for Joe Biden among black voters.
This public declaration is all the more notable given Rose’s previous relationship with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, who had openly supported Donald Trump during his 2020 presidential bid.
