In a recent episode of “Gutfeld!” on FOX News, host Greg Gutfeld engaged in a fiery debate with HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher about former President Donald Trump. The episode, featuring guests Dana Perino, Dr. Drew Pinsky, and Kat Timpf, was intended to highlight bipartisan dialogue but quickly escalated into a confrontation revealing Maher’s strong anti-Trump sentiments.
Maher initially agreed with Gutfeld’s call for engaging with ideological opposites but quickly shifted to criticize Trump, emphasizing his belief that Trump refuses to concede elections. “That’s the most important thing. You don’t seem to see it that way. That’s the most important thing that’s going on in this country. He didn’t concede the last election. He’s not going to concede this election,” Maher said.
Gutfeld challenged Maher’s assertions, arguing that predicting future actions without evidence is speculative. Maher, however, persisted, citing Trump’s phone call to Georgia officials post-2020 election as an example of his concerns.
“But can you really picture this guy going, ‘You know what? I lost. That’s it,’” Maher asked, to which Gutfeld responded, “He did. He left.” Maher retorted, “He left because he had to leave,” prompting Gutfeld to explain, “Yes, because that’s how it works. What do you think? He’s going to board up the White House? Pull a straw dog with Dustin Hoffman?”
The conversation grew more heated as Maher continued to express his distrust of Trump, referencing past controversies and legal battles. Gutfeld defended Trump’s actions, pointing out discrepancies in Maher’s accusations. For example, Maher said Trump asked Georgia officials to “find” votes, while Gutfeld clarified, “He said, ‘Find.’ He didn’t say create. He said, ‘Find.’”
The episode highlighted a notable clash in perspectives. Dr. Drew attempted to mediate but found little success as the conversation veered into personal attacks and historical grievances. At one point, Maher joked about a past lawsuit Trump filed against him, while Gutfeld suggested that Maher’s criticisms seemed personal.
Maher’s frustration with Trump was evident. “Well, it is bothering me because, again, he’s an insurrectionist who doesn’t believe in democracy. So of course, it’s bothering me. And, of course, he’s also insane, criminal, and stupid,” he stated.
