Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker recently made headlines for his impassioned critique of Joe Biden’s stance on abortion, which he deemed “delusional,” particularly given Biden’s identity as a practicing Catholic. Butker delivered his pointed remarks during a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, where he also lambasted the federal government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and voiced his concerns about the Democrats’ social views.
Addressing the graduates, Butker emphasized the societal impact of poor leadership, citing Covid lockdowns as a prime example. He lamented the broader implications of Democrat rule, asserting that “bad policies and poor leadership” have contributed to the growth of abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, and what he described as a growing acceptance of “degenerate cultural values and media.”
Butker didn’t mince words when laying the blame on Biden’s shoulders, who he accused of professing his Catholic faith while simultaneously supporting abortion rights. He specifically referenced Biden’s use of the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally, a gesture typically associated with prayer among Catholics. This juxtaposition, in Butker’s view, epitomizes the disconnect between Biden’s self-proclaimed religious affiliation and his political stance on abortion.
Highlighting Biden’s status as only the second Roman Catholic president in U.S. history, Butker underscored the apparent contradiction between Biden’s faith and his support for killing innocent. He criticized what he perceived as a trend among Catholic leaders, including those responsible for lockdowns and the promotion of “dangerous gender ideologies,” aligning themselves with policies contrary to Catholic teachings.
Butker implored the graduates to reject complacency and challenge what he termed the “Church of nice,” urging them to advocate for traditional morals and values. His remarks serve as a reminder of the opposition Catholics always have – and should – demonstrated to abortion.
Meanwhile, President Biden has remained steadfast in his support for abortion, calling for voters to re-elect him in 2024 and give the Democrats House and Senate majorities to codify the so-called “right” to abortion nationwide, in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
